Embattled York judge files for bankruptcy

A York County probate judge who was censured for violating the Maine Code of Judicial Conduct has filed for bankruptcy.

Robert Nadeau, who's serving his third term, claims debts and liabilities of more than $1.8 million, and assets of nearly $960,000, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Nadeau was suspended from his job earlier this year by the state supreme court, which ruled that Nadeau knowingly misrepresented the professional conduct of one of his opponents in a primary race, the paper reports.

But his troubles go beyond that. In 2005, he was ordered to pay two former employees $27,500 in dispute client fees. They sued him after leaving Nadeau's firm when they discovered he was having an affair with a former client, according to the paper.
