EMDC cuts seven positions

Bangor-based Eastern Maine Development Corp. has cut seven staff positions, citing reduced resources and fewer contracts.

The group, which provides business and community development assistance to six counties in eastern and midcoast Maine, announced the cuts yesterday, according to the Bangor Daily News. President and CEO Michael Aube attributed the decision to a handful of expired contracts and less funding from federal and state agencies. The group's board of directors has approved the cuts. Further layoffs are not expected, Aube told the paper.

EMDC serves Penobscot, Piscataquis, Hancock, Washington, Waldo and Knox counties, and has about 65 employees.
