Daniel Coffey, executive vice president and chief financial officer at Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, will take over as president and CEO of The Acadia Hospital in Bangor.
Coffey, who also serves as treasurer for EMHS, succeeds David Proffitt, who resigned in April, according to a press release. EMHS President and CEO Michelle Hood said Coffey was a natural choice because of his knowledge of the system, the mental health care hospital, and Maine's political and regulatory environment. Coffey has worked within EMHS for 34 years and helped establish The Acadia Hospital in the late 1980s. He also served as president and CEO of Healthcare Charities for nine years and interim EMHS president and CEO for six months. He starts his new job immediately.
Coffey takes over less than six months after the Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the hospital $11,700 for failing to provide a safe working environment for employees and improperly documenting workplace injuries. The fines and investigation were prompted by complaints from an employee over increased worker injuries.
