Enviro. group supports Plum Creek

Breaking with other environmental groups, the Maine branch of The Nature Conservancy is voicing its support for Plum Creek's proposed development in the Moosehead region.

The Brunswick-based group on Tuesday said it supported the Land Use Regulation Commission's approval of the development, which includes two resorts, up to 821 residential units and a 363,000-acre conservation easement, according to the Associated Press. Three environmental groups -- Natural Resources Council of Maine, the Forest Ecology Network and RESTORE: The North Woods -- have filed an appeal  to overturn LURC's approval. The Nature Conservancy filed court papers Tuesday as a party in the appeals process, saying LURC's approval should stand.
