Environmental cos. win grants to launch products

Two Portland-area entrepreneurs were among five companies that received nearly $20,000 from the Maine Technology Institute.

MTI recently awarded TechStart grants to SeaChange Group LLC in Cape Elizabeth and Smart-Monergy Inc. in Portland, both in the environmental technology category, according to a press release. More information on the recipients:

  • SeaChange Group LLC, Cape Elizabeth. Award: $4,975; match: $5,145. SeaChange Group LLC will use this award to complete international patent filings for its Eco-Hybrid, low-emissions fuel technology as well as to trademark BunkerGreen, its first product offering based on the technology. SCG is developing a family of fuels that meet new regulatory standards while also lowering operational costs. The company seeks to develop classes of low-emission fuels based on its Eco-Hybrid technology for marine, rail, power generation and off-road applications.
  • Smart-Monergy Inc., Portland. Award: $2,000; match: $5,600. Smart-Monergy has developed technology to help individuals and companies optimize their energy consumption. The company will conduct market research to develop its new Remote Temperature Zone Control that will use home area networks and cloud computing concepts.

MTI's TechStart grants fund entrepreneurs and companies across Maine that are developing new technology products to bring to market and need a boost to get their projects started. TechStart grants are competitively awarded each month in amounts up to $5,000 per project and must be matched at least one-to-one by the entrepreneur.
