A Westbrook electrical construction company has been awarded a $4 million contract for work on the $75 million Portland International Jetport terminal expansion.
E.S. Boulos will install all primary and emergency power systems; lighting and lighting control systems; temporary power and lighting; the generator system; and the grounding and lightning protection systems. Dennis St. Pierre, director of E.S. Boulos, says the company will also provide power for the terminal's geothermal pumps, which along with the terminal solar power, will enable the project to seek LEED silver certification.
St. Pierre says the company is using Building Information Modeling to carry out its portion of the project, a requirement of the project's primary contractor, Turner Construction of Boston.
The software platform allows contractors to have a 3-D view of any project, and in this case, will help E.S. Boulos avoid conflicts with work performed by other contractors, St. Pierre says.
The company invested up to $100,000 to purchase the BIM platform and put workers through training. So far, eight project managers and eight project engineers have been trained so far in the company's commercial division and more will follow, St. Pierre says.
The company has been around since 1920 and employs 250 people, working 500,000 to 700,000 man hours per year, he says. The company's average annual revenue is more than $50 million.
