Ex-Christian league head to run for guv

Michael Heath, the former executive director of the Christian Civic League of Maine, is the latest candidate to run for governor.

Heath registered with the state ethics commission as a gubernatorial candidate, and as an unenrolled candidate has until June 1 to collect 4,000 signatures to qualify for the November ballot, according to the Kennebec Journal. Heath spent 15 years at the civic league, and has led opposition to casino gambling and twice led people's veto efforts to overturn gay rights laws.

There are 25 people running for governor and 12 candidates are either Democrats or Republicans who will compete in the June primary for the right to represent their party on the November ballot, according to the paper. The other 13 candidates have until June 1 to qualify for the November ballot.
