Ex-credit union employee gets jail time for theft
A former Atlantic Regional Federal Credit Union employee has been sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison for stealing more than $500,000 from the Brunswick-based institution.
U.S. District Judge D. Brock Hornby sentenced Marsha Richard to 33 months in prison and a five-year-term of probation, according to the Sun Journal. Richard pleaded guilty in September. According to court records, Richard stole more than $500,000 from the credit union between November 2004 and October 2010, when credit union officials notified the police about the potential theft. Richard manipulated accounting entries for checks that members had deposited but were returned for insufficient funds, crediting her own account or accounts of family members and friends.
No credit union members were impacted by the theft, president and CEO Roger Sirois said when Atlantic Regional announced the investigation in January.
