FAA awards $5.4 million to four Maine airports

The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded almost $5.4 million to four Maine airports for equipment purchases and improvements to their facilities.

According to The Associated Press, the FAA is awarding $2.6 million to the Bangor International Airport, $1.4 million to the Portland International Jetport, $850,000 to Owls Head Airport and $509,000 to the Princeton Municipal Airport.

The Bangor airport intends to use its award to improve the runway drainage system, upgrade runway lights and enclose a drainage canal that attracts wildlife, the AP reported. Portland’s jetport will purchase two front-end loaders, two snowplows and a snow-sweeping vehicle. Owls Head will buy a new plow truck and install a fence around the airport’s perimeter to keep wildlife off the runways. Princeton will use its grant to build a new taxiway for access to the main runway.
