FAME chief steps down

Finance Authority of Maine CEO John Witherspoon is leaving the agency to re-enter the private sector.

Witherspoon yesterday was announced as the new president and CEO of Skowhegan Savings Bank, according to a press release from the bank. He will join Skowhegan Savings in November following the retirement of the current president and CEO, Virginia Howard, a 32-year veteran of the bank. The new job is likely familiar to Witherspoon, who ran UnitedKingfield Bank for 17 years before joining FAME in 2004.

There was no word on who would replace Witherspoon at FAME, the independent state agency based in Augusta that administers loans and financing programs for business and higher education recipients.
