Farmers appeal Clifton wind farm

A couple in Clifton is appealing the town's October approval of a $25 million wind farm on Pisgah Mountain.

Peter and Julie Beckford said the noise from the five turbines will be heard from their perennial flower farm and are asking the town to revoke the permit, according to news channel WCSH-6. The Beckfords' home is 5,000 feet, or nearly one mile, from the wind farm site, which developer Paul Fuller of Bangor said meets noise and setback requirements. Fuller owns 270 acres on the Penobscot County mountain, and the wind farm is expected to generate electricity for up to 4,000 homes. He planned to begin site work this year and install the turbines next year.

The Clifton's board of appeals will take up the Beckfords' appeal.
