Farnsworth museum cuts, furloughs staff

The Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland has cut four staff members, or 6% of its staff, and instituted a week's furlough for full-time salaried staff members.

The cost-cutting measures are in response to a 30% drop in the museum's endowment and other pressures related to the recession, according to the Herald Gazette. The unspecified number of employees required to take a week of unpaid time off must do so before the end of the year. The museum plans to continue its programming with existing staff and to postpone any future initiatives.

The museum announced the changes to its membership at the end of May.
