Gelato Fiasco, already the fastest-growing pint brand in the United States, just added 250 grocery locations in New England.
Shaw’s Supermarkets, Walmart and Market Basket will each offer up to seven flavors of Gelato Fiasco pints at all New England stores, the Brunswick-based company said.
“I’m delighted that so many major retailers have decided to support our Maine-made gelato throughout New England,” Josh Davis, the company’s co-founder and CEO and the 2016 Mainebiz Small Company Business Leader of the Year, said in a news release.
Most grocery stores “reset” their shelves for the year with new products every March or April.
The news comes amid improvements at Gelato Fiasco’s Flavor Foundry in equipment and efficiency of scale the company said support a new pricing strategy. It now suggests a retail price of $4.99 to $5.99 a pint.
The new stores add to Gelato Fiasco’s existing New England presence, which includes many Hannaford stores in Maine, Stop & Shop and independent retailers. Nationwide, customers can find the brand at outlets including Harris-Teeter, Safeway, The Fresh Market, and at a wide variety of independent retailers.
Gelato Fiasco operates scoop shops in Brunswick and Portland and is scheduled to open a third in Orlando, Fla., in early May.
