Finalists announced for Congress Square redesign
Portland’s Planning & Urban Development Department has announced that it has narrowed the field down to four design teams as finalists for the Congress Square Redesign Project, after receiving a dozen submissions for the ambitious downtown public space redesign project.
The four finalist design teams are: CRJA – IBI of Boston; Michael Boucher Landscape Architecture of Freeport; Terry DeWan & Associates of Yarmouth with Olin Studio of Philadelphia, respectively; and WRT of Philadelphia.
The four finalists will now proceed to a second round of the vetting process, which will include interviews with the selection committee, a site visit and a public presentation.
The finalists will participate in a free public forum on May 4 at the Portland Museum of Art, which will include a presentation from each finalist and a question-and-answer session.
“The public forum will create an opportunity for the community to learn about the prospective consultants and provide input on the finalists,” project manager and City Urban Designer Caitlin Cameron said in a statement announcing the finalists. “We want to hire design professionals that the community will be excited about and who will be good partners with the city and the selected artist.”
The vetting process to find an artist to work with the design team to create a concept for public art to be part of the redesign is still under review, with an announcement expected before this summer.
