First National Bank donated $20,000 to Tedford Housing for the nonprofit's $8.8 million capital campaign to build emergency housing for adults and families experiencing homelessness.
The campaign is 97% fulfilled and has attracted 459 donors, according to Tedford’s website.
Since 1987, Tedford Housing, a nonprofit based in Brunswick, has provided emergency housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, permanent supportive housing for previously homeless families and individuals, and homelessness prevention services.
It primarily serves Lincoln, Sagadahoc and northern Cumberland counties.
Tedford plans to build emergency housing in Brunswick, on Thomas Point Road near Cook’s Corner.
On just over three acres, the building will increase shelter capacity by 60% and support case management and community resources.
“We’re proud to support Tedford Housing and their commitment to support families in Lincoln County and beyond,” said Susan Norton, chief administrative officer of First National Bank.
Tedford bought just over 3 acres on Thomas Point Road, in the heart of Brunswick’s Cook’s Corner retail neighborhood and adjacent to Brunswick Landing.
The site is near health care, employment opportunities, transportation, education and retail.
It’s expected the location will help Tedford collaborate more closely with Mid Coast Hospital, other health care providers, safety net agencies and community groups to address housing needs and make service connections.
The project comes after years of planning. Construction of the 17,568-square-foot building will allow Tedford to consolidate its current adult and family shelters on Cumberland and Federal streets in Brunswick, as well as an administrative office.
It’s expected construction will be complete sometime in 2025.
First National Bank, a subsidiary of the First Bancorp Inc. (NASDAQ: FNLC) is an independent community bank with 18 offices in Lincoln, Knox, Waldo, Hancock, Washington and Penobscot counties.
