Fontaine Family hosted its 11th annual Bid for Wishes Facebook auction May 6 through May 13, with the proceeds to benefit Make-A-Wish Maine.
Fontaine’s history of fundraising for Make-A-Wish Maine began in 2009. The company has hosted the auctions since 2013. The weeklong auctions aim to help grant the wishes of seriously ill children across Maine.
This year's auction had hundreds of items for bidding, ranging from experiences and services to products. The simple participation process involved joining Fontaine on Facebook during the auction week to place bids.
The final tally for this year's event wasn't in at press time, but it was estimated at over $25,000 and possibly close to $30,000.
This year, the auction was held in loving memory of 11-year-old Jackson Gibson, whose journey was cut short by Sanfilippo Syndrome, a rare genetic condition.
“Known for his radiant smile and the light of his pure soul, Jackson effortlessly touched the hearts of all who knew him,” said Fontaine Family. “Despite the challenges he faced, he lived his life with grace and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on those around him.”
In 2023, Fontaine hosted its 10th Annual Bid for Wishes Virtual Auction on Facebook, with over 300 items collected from Maine business owners. Over $24,000 was raised to grant wishes for seriously ill children in Maine. The company has been involved with fundraising for Make a Wish Maine since 2009 and has raised over $140,000 since then.
Since 2005, Fontaine Family, based in Auburn, has also participated in WJBQ Q97.9’s Cans for a Cure, raising money to help those fighting breast cancer in Maine. The goal each year is to completely fill the company’s moving van with cans and bottles.
