Maine's largest brewery announced on Giving Tuesday that it has pledged $100,000 over five years to the nonprofit In Her Presence.
Allagash Brewing Co., which is based in Portland, is a certified B Corporation.
In Her Presence brings together immigrant women from across communities and generations to ensure that their aspirations and needs are included in Maine’s economic agenda.
The Allagash funding will support programs like contextual English language education, career counseling, resume and interview guidance and related professional and leadership development.
“Allagash has been a consistent champion of our work. From starting an internship to partnering with us to bring meaningful cultural training and conversations to Allagash employees, their multifaceted support has helped amplify our mission and maximize our impact,” said Claudette Ndayininahaze, founder of In Her Presence.
Ndayininahaze came to America with 15 years of professional experience in the brewing industry in her home of Burundi. In Maine, she found that the language barrier made it difficult to find a supportive network, so she created one.
“By starting In Her Presence, Claudette and team are building community for immigrant women in Maine, as well as providing valuable resources and programming so they can thrive in their new home both professionally and personally,” said Celine Frueh, vice president of human resources and organizational development at Allagash. “We’re very fortunate to be able to partner with this tremendous organization.”
Last year, Allagash directed more than $500,000 to community organizations, using its own funds and those contributed by tasting room customers. The brewery donates 1% of sales.
B Corporation certification is awarded to businesses that have elected to broaden their mission beyond financial profit to include making a positive impact on society and the environment.
