Former Bangor lawyer sentenced for not filing taxes

A former partner at Rudman & Winchell in Bangor has received probation for failing to file state income tax returns.

Attorney Michael McAleer of Orono was sentenced to two rounds of a six-month jail term, which was suspended, followed by a one-year period of probation, plus a combination of suspended sentences for the remaining counts, for failing to file returns for 2003 through 2007, according to a press release from the Attorney General's Office. McAleer will also be required to pay tax due and file his 2007 and 2008 returns, as well as file future returns on time. The charges were brought against McAleer in August 2009, and McAleer filed a plea of no contest in Penobscot County Superior Court earlier this month.
