Former Gov. Baldacci hired as Pierce Atwood adviser

Pierce Atwood has hired former Gov. John Baldacci as senior adviser in its economic development and government relations group. Baldacci will work primarily in the Portland office, but also will travel to the firm's other New England offices and its Washington, D.C., location, according to a press release from the company.

Baldacci comes to Pierce Atwood following an appointment as the director of the U.S. Department of Defense's Military Health Care Reform Initiative, where he worked for the former-Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Clifford Stanley, to conduct a full-scale review and evaluation of military health care and wellness.

"The governor's many years of state and national public service as a governor and congressman and his expertise in the energy, health care and economic development sectors provide a perspective that will serve our clients well and enhance our regional and national growth," said Gloria Pinza, the firm's managing partner, in a release.

Baldacci served two terms as governor from 2003-2011. Prior to that, he represented Maine's 2nd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995-2003 following 12 years in the Maine Senate from 1982-1994.

Pierce Atwood has more than 130 attorneys and two Maine offices in Augusta and Portland, as well as others in New England and Sweden.
