Former Hilton exec eyes Brunswick inn

A firm led by a former Hilton Hotels executive in India has plans to acquire a historic Brunswick inn that has fallen into foreclosure under the watch of two previous owners.

The Forecaster reported that Boston East India Hotels has received innkeeping and special amusement licenses from the town of Brunswick in anticipation of acquiring the Captain Daniel Stone Inn by the end of the month.

Abhijit “Beej” Das, the firm’s president and CEO, told the paper that he could not confirm a transaction was under way but said that approval of local licenses is often a part of the due diligence process for acquiring a new property.

Lafayette Hotels has managed the property for Saco and Biddeford Savings Institution since it fell into foreclosure in 2011 under the ownership of Tourism Properties, which acquired the inn in 2009. The inn went into foreclosure under Tourism Properties’ predecessor as well, in 2008.

The paper reported the effective date for the new business licenses is Sept. 30.
