Former ski exec heads broadband group

Warren Cook, a former leader of both Sugarloaf and Saddleback ski resorts, has been tapped to lead the state's Broadband Capacity Building Task Force.

The task force is being formed by the Maine State Planning Office to help develop policies to increase high-speed Internet access in rural Maine, according to the Bangor Daily News. Cook is co-founder of Maine Network Partners, a group that supports nonprofit and grassroots initiatives through collaboration. Cook was general manager of Saddleback Maine in Rangeley for two years before stepping down in 2010, and he previously served as president and CEO of Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley and president of JAX Research Systems at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor. Mainebiz named Cook to its 2009 Next List.

State economist Amanda Rector will appoint the remaining members of the task force soon, according to the paper.
