A former employee at the T-Mobile call center in Oakland said she plans to sue the company in federal court for prohibiting her from discussing a sexual harassment complaint she made against a supervisor, the Morning Sentinel reported Tuesday.
The National Labor Relations Board ruled earlier this year that the wireless provider was wrong to require its workers not to talk about ongoing internal investigations to anyone but the investigator.
The former employee, Angela Agganis of Waterville, spoke at a press conference Tuesday morning near the entrance of the call center at FirstPark in Oakland, the paper reported.
Agganis, who said she worked for the company for nearly eight years, had complained to human resources about repeated sexual harassment from a male supervisor in August 2014, but was asked to sign a confidentiality agreement prohibiting her from discussing the investigation with anyone. She was told she could be fired if she didn’t comply.
A judge from the federal labor board ruled in August that T-Mobile had violated U.S. labor law in North Carolina and Oakland when it had employees sign confidentiality agreements after opening internal investigations.
