Former upscale spa in central Maine up for sale

A former luxury spa that was once owned by Elizabeth Arden, who built a cosmetics empire and was once one of the wealthiest woman in the world, is up for sale.

The Kennebec Journal reported that the 17-acre property that spans across Rome and Mount Vernon, formerly known as the Maine Chance Spa, is being sold for $765,000. The estate is being sold by Stefan Tufano, whose parents bought the property in 1970, a few years after Arden’s spa for the rich and famous closed.

Arden, whose legacy continues through her eponymous cosmetics company in New York City, originally had the estate built as her summer home in the 1920’s before changing it into a spa, which was said to have attracted many celebrities, including actress Judy Garland.
