Grab your beer steins and gear up for the Heart of Biddeford's second annual Oktoberfest.
The fall festival is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, from noon to 6 p.m., on Lincoln Street in Biddeford.
Abby Leibowitz, assistant director of Heart of Biddeford, told Mainebiz that the Oktoberfest is a fundraiser for the organization, and will help it continue providing community events for downtown Biddeford.
Vendors at this year’s festival will include Blaze Brewing Co., Banded Brewing Co., Batson River Brewing and Distilling, Brickyard Hollow, Lucky Pigeon, Nibblesford Cheese Shop, Cargo Pizza, Plot Twist Pretzels, Lucky Cat Coffee, Omi's Haus, Ore Nell's North Reilly's Bakery, Sweetcream Dairy and Nono's Kitchen.
There will also be live bands that bring the sounds of Bavaria to Biddeford, setting the stage for fun-filled games and activities for all ages. The music will kick off with the traditional German band the Oom Pa Pas, coming from Boston, followed by a set from Michael Corleto in the afternoon.
From stein-hoisting competitions that test your strength to a dog costume contest, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
“After learning from last year's inaugural event, we've made exciting updates to ensure an even better experience this time,” said Leibowitz.
“There will be an updated layout for improved setup and more fun, limited VIP tickets, including early access with shorter lines. We love to see the community get together to celebrate Biddeford's local beer and food scene and are ready to usher in fall with a fun gathering.”
Tickets range from $10 to $45. Check out the Heart of Biddeford website for more information and to buy tickets.
For more brewery festival fun, check out the Auburn Blues & Brews on Saturday, Sept. 7, in Auburn. The festival, which runs from 1-6 p.m. on Main Street/Festival Plaza, will feature live music, brews from seven breweries and five local food trucks/food vendors offering everything from wood-fired pizza to gourmet grilled cheese, bubble waffles to burgers, whoopie pies to specialty coffees and more. Admission to this event is free.
Silly’s Food Truck will open a restaurant at 131 Ossipee Trail West in Standish. During renovations, the owner announced via social media that the food truck will be outside. There will be outdoor seating the truck will stay open longer while renovations are going on. The restaurant is slated to open in December.
The Messy Cookie, which makes hand-crafted specialty custom sugar cookies and cakes, opened on Aug. 30 in Portland at 1190 Forest Ave.
L.L.Bean and Harpoon Brewery have teamed up for the first time to craft the Harpoon x L.L. Bean Harvest Lager — a limited-edition, golden amber lager brewed with Maine-grown malt. The new beer is available for a limited time in 16-ounce four-packs, in 12-ounce cans as part of Harpoon's annual 12-pack fall mix pack, and on draft at select locations throughout New England.
Beyond the beer, the brands have teamed up to offer a special fall sweepstakes and a series of activities in September and October, bringing the L.L.Bean Bootmobile to Harpoon's Beer Hall in Boston.
