From the Editor: Leadership at a time when it’s needed

There’s probably no harder time to run a business or nonprofit than when the world around you is swirling with chaos and uncertainty.

This year has shown that few businesses are safe from the pandemic. In some cases, manufacturers that could pivot swiftly have prospered. Companies with cash reserves have been able to ride out extended periods of being shut down.

Others have been able to get federal CARES Act assistance to keep employees on the payroll. Still others have seamlessly been able to adapt to remote work.

But no business has been completely immune to the effects of the past six months.

That’s all the more reason why Mainebiz feels this group of Next honorees offer some hope for the future. They’re contributing to Maine’s economy and workforce, but they’ve also demonstrated leadership at their companies or nonprofits when it's been sorely needed.

This year we honor eight individuals on our Next list. Profiles start on Page 16.
