From the Editor: Maine law firms are making a practice of staying active

Itā€™s been a particularly active year for law firms in Maine. From some that are reinvesting in office space to changes of leadership to a shift in the ranking of the top three firms, thereā€™s been a lot of movement in Maine law.

Preti Flaherty and Dentons are among the law firms that have invested in office space, post-pandemic, as firms recommit to physical working space, as Senior Writer Laurie Schreiber reports. For Preti, the space isnā€™t just about where to meet clients. Thereā€™s a ā€œwellness suiteā€ and a larger area for staffers to ā€œgather and eat lunch and socialize,ā€ the managing partner told Laurie. See ā€œLaw firm fit-ups,ā€ which starts on Page 16.

Staff Writer Alexis Wells takes a look at the changes in managing partners at firms, and in every case the firms are getting younger. Preti Flaherty, Brann & Isaacson and Dentons have all hired managing partners in their 40s. See ā€œYouth movement,ā€ which starts on Page 18.

For our cover story, Senior Writer Renee Cordes homes in on technology thatā€™s making a difference in the legal field. Her story starts on Page 12.

And donā€™t miss the new rankings among Maineā€™s largest law firms, with a change at the top. See the list on Page 26.
