In the past week, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the state rose by a dime.
During that same period, the average national price for a gallon of gas dipped by 7 cents to $2.11, according to the popular price tracking website GasBuddy.
The $2.20 statewide average reported on Wednesday is still 26 cents lower than one year ago and is higher than New Hampshire's $2.09 average price per gallon and higher than Vermont's price of $2.19 per gallon.
“Much of the jump at the pump can be blamed on crude oil prices that rose sharply last week as traders bid oil prices higher, optimistic that a weekend meeting between some oil-producing countries in Doha, Qatar, would net an oil production freeze or cut,” said GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan. “Gasoline prices continued the push higher, following oil, with 49 of 50 states seeing a weekly rise at the pump, with the lone exception being Hawaii, where prices fell three tenths of a penny.”
