Get connected: Applications to expand broadband open until Nov. 9

Applications are being accepted until Nov. 9 for a program that will grant $70 million to government entities, broadband utility districts, and internet service providers that need funds to design and build broadband infrastructure projects.

The Maine Connectivity Authority's new Connect and Ready program is prioritizing the expansion of broadband in unserved communities around the state, especially rural and remote locations.

The program builds on 44 Maine communities and regions that have received broadband infrastructure funding through MCA and ConnectMaine Authority, according to a prepared release. Applications for funding are available here

"By allowing communities to demonstrate where access is needed the most, new internet infrastructure will grow to meet Mainers not only where they are, but where they're headed," said Brian Alleby of MCA in the release.

Andrew Butcher, Maine Connectivity Authority president, said, “Connect the Ready represents an amazing opportunity to build on and significantly increase the scale of the innovative work done across the state to date, leveraging Maine’s culture of partnering to achieve our common goals.”

Maine Connectivity Authority, founded in 2021, is a quasi-governmental agency charged with achieving universal access to affordable high-speed broadband in Maine.

Connect the Ready is part of the Maine Connectivity Authority “All-In” program, funded by a $150 million grant from the American Rescue Plan Act’s Capital Projects Fund and the Maine Jobs and Recovery Program.
