Lehoux Art, a gift shop and gallery that opened this month in Wells, is envisioned as an artisan community space.
The gallery, which is at 1662 Post Road, Suite B2, plans to host Maine artisans and offer small workshops, said owner Danielle Lehoux, who also plans to show her own work as well.
“I’m envisioning a gathering place for anyone looking to be creative in a non-intimidating atmosphere,” she said.
Lehoux Art was established in 2015. Lehoux is a graphic artist born and raised in nearby Cape Neddick.
The shop offers art prints, cards, souvenirs and home décor items. All products are designed in Maine and made in the U.S., available both retail and wholesale, she said.
Lehoux's work is created using a stylus and touchscreen laptop to make digitally painted subjects. Her art features Maine landmarks, coastal scenes and birds.
The process involves using a stylus as a “paintbrush” and computer screen as a “canvas,” working in layers to create shapes that, viewed together, make up a finished piece. Her bird artwork is compiled of anywhere from 50 to 75 layers. Her scenic artwork is more detailed and can contain from 200 to 250 layers.
Her prints and products are sold at several dozen outlets in Maine as well as locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.
