“Glamping,” or glamorous camping, has caught on in recent years, according to Business Insider. Mainebiz last September reported that Maine Forest Yurts of Durham is capitalizing on the trend for tourists wanting a close encounter with nature without all the dirt or the bugs.
Now Boston Magazine has reported that Kennebunkport’s Sandy Pines Campground is seeking to leverage the trend, offering 12 one-of-a-kind, safari-style tents, designed in partnership with 12 designers. The preview tent was designed by Krista Stokes of Kennebunkport’s Favela Chic. At 540 square feet of airy, it has a birch canopy bed with fur accents, a living area with seating, furniture, lighting and décor.
Open Air Business, an outdoor hospitality magazine, reported on an IBIS Worldwide survey, which said growth in the outdoor hospitality industry was “supported by the expansion of glamping sites, luxury campsites that offer modern facilities and services, such as Wi-Fi, and aimed at higher income customers who may not normally camp.”
