The Gulf of Maine Research Institute, a Portland-based marine nonprofit, has hired Nana Annan as chief operating officer.
Annan brings over 25 years of experience in nonprofit and corporate environments to her new role.
She most recently served as COO for Harlem Children’s Zone, a New York City-based nonprofit with an annual budget of over $150 million and almost $1 billion in managed assets.
Previously, Annan was COO of the Boys Club of New York and held several roles at Morgan Stanley, including enterprise infrastructure project manager, commodities IT associate and commodities IT analyst.
“Nana will be an excellent addition to the team in developing and delivering collaborative solutions to global challenges while partnering with other leading organizations in our work,” said GMRI's chief executive officer, Glenn Prickett.
Annan received her Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in computer and information science from Spelman College.
“I am happy to join the Gulf of Maine Research Institute as they continue to conduct groundbreaking studies on the local ecosystem and ocean along with their work around aquaculture and other ocean-related fields with a national impact,” Annan said.
In the last four to five years, the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, based on Commercial Street in Portland, has grown its operating budget from $13 million to $20 million, and its staff has nearly doubled to roughly 100 employees.
