Hack targets L.L.Bean card holders

Freeport-based L.L.Bean recently notified credit card holders that a data breach at its marketing vendor had exposed their names and e-mail addresses.

Spokeswoman Carolyn Beem told the Portland Press Herald that an outside party accessed files maintained by Epsilon, a marketing vendor used by credit card servicer Barclays Bank of Delaware to send e-mails to customers. No financial or personal information was compromised, but customers were warned to ignore any future e-mails asking for personal information, such as passwords or Social Security numbers.

Epsilon is conducting an investigation of the breach.
