Hannaford parent lays off 350 corporate workers

Hannaford Supermarkets' parent company, Delhaize America, is laying off 350 corporate employees. Some of those layoffs will hit the company's Scarborough offices, however, an exact number was not released.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the company employs roughly 1,000 in back-office functions at its Scarborough location.

Company spokesman Michael Norton told the paper that he could not break out the layoff total by location because the company is still notifying employees about the job cuts. However, Norton said the layoffs are roughly equal between the company's offices in North Carolina and Scarborough.

In addition, the company has decided not to fill 150 corporate positions, for a job reduction total of 500 at the parent company.

Norton said there have not been any cuts to the roughly 8,500 jobs at Maine's 56 Hannaford locations.
