Hastings resigns as Pen Bay chamber CEO

After nearly seven years as CEO of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, Bob Hastings will be leaving the post for a similar job in Massachusetts.

Hastings has accepted the position of executive director of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, which serves Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester by the Sea and Essex, Mass., according to VillageSoup. Hastings will stay at the Penobscot Bay chamber until Dec. 31, and start his new position in early January. Hastings called the move "a tremendous opportunity," and made similarities between the Rockland area and Gloucester, a fishing community of 30,000, Hastings told VillageSoup.

In his time at the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber, Hastings helped boost downtown development and establish the Midcoast region's Pine Tree Zones, which attracted Athenahealth to Belfast last year and Boston Financial Data Systems in Rockland earlier this year. In 2005, Hastings was named chamber executive of the year by the Maine State Chamber of Commerce.
