Health agency eyes new Augusta home

Augusta-based Crisis & Counseling, which earlier this year backed out of a deal to buy the Kennebec Journal's former headquarters, may finally be relocating.

The mental health and substance abuse counseling agency has signed a letter of intent to relocate from Winthrop Street to Caldwell Road, on property owned by MaineGeneral Medical Center, according to the Kennebec Journal. The agency has been looking for a new home for more than a year because its current offices are needed for an expansion of the county courthouse. Crisis & Counseling is hoping to get a lease/purchase agreement for the Caldwell Road property, currently occupied by Workplace Health, which will move out June 10. The agency has about 90 employees.

In February, the agency backed out of a plan to buy the newspaper's former building on Western Avenue because repairs were too costly.
