The building formerly occupied by auto parts manufacturer ZF-Lemforder in Brewer will soon become the new home of heat pump maker Nyle Systems.
City planners approved Nyle's relocation from Center Street to the Lemforder building on Stevens Road, where renovations are already in progress, Nyle Vice President Don Lewis told the Bangor Daily News. The company will occupy half of the 55,000-square-foot warehouse, doubling the amount of space it currently has, with hopes to eventually expand to the whole building. Nyle makes energy-saving heat pump technology for residential, industrial and commercial uses. The company currently has 18 employees and plans to hire two more this week, according to the paper.
Germany-based ZF-Lemforder announced in January 2009 it would close its Brewer facility by mid-2010, putting 127 people out of work. In May, Bill Varney, founder and co-owner of insurance company Varney Agency, bought the warehouse from the city for an undisclosed amount, with plans to lease it to various tenants in manufacturing, shipping and research and development.
