The three employers ranked at the top of this year's "Best Places to Work in Maine" list all look familiar there — because each sat at the top of the 2023 roster, too.
Consigli Construction, Wings for Children & Families and Acadia Benefits were recently named the best Maine employers in the large, medium and small employer categories, respectively.
The “Best Places to Work in Maine” program, in its 19th year, ranked a total of 133 organizations on the list, roughly the same number as last year.
The Maine State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, in partnership with Best Companies Group and Bridgetower Media, selected the pool of "bests" in a competitive process that began in May. An alphabetical list of the honorees came out in August.
The rankings — the run-down that determines the best of the best — were announced Oct. 8 during an award gala at the Augusta Civic Center.
Consigli, with a Portland office, took top honors among large companies (with 250 or more employees) for the third straight year.
Wings for Families & Children, a Bangor mental health nonprofit, was the top employer in the medium category (50 to 249 employees), after ranking the same last year and No. 14 in 2022.
Acadia Benefits in Portland took the top spot among small employers (15 to 49 employees) for the third consecutive year.
The “Best Places to Work in Maine” program recognizes companies that have established and consistently fostered outstanding workplace environments.
To be considered, nominees had to be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity that is at least one year old, employs at least 15 full- or part-time workers in Maine, and operates a brick-and-mortar facility in the state.
The honorees were selected according to two criteria: an evaluation of each nominee's workplace policies, practices and demographics, worth approximately 25% of the evaluation score, and an employee survey, which made up 75% of the score.
