Hollywood Slots' bid to add table games to its facility won initial House support yesterday, and now heads to the Senate for debate.
House members voted 83-61 in favor of LD 1418, which would allow the Bangor facility to add games such as poker and roulette, according to the Bangor Daily News. Under the bill, Hollywood Slots would pay an initial $100,000 fee to operate each of the 12 to 14 planned table games for 20 years, for a total of $1.4 million headed for the General Fund. Supporters of the measure, including bill sponsor Rep. Doug Damon, R-Bangor, said the facility has been "a boon for the city and the state" and should be allowed to expand. If the Senate and Gov. Paul LePage approve the bill, Bangor voters must also approve adding table games, according to the paper.
The House this week also approved two bills that would allow casinos in Lewiston, Biddeford and Calais, sending those bills to the Senate. LePage has said he will veto them, in order to send the measures to a referendum.
