Iconic Stockholm store finds new owners

After a year on the market, the century-old Anderson’s Store in Stockholm (population 250) has found new owners.

The County reported that cousins Suzy and Gale Anderson sold the store to Deb Paiement and Phil Andrews, from the Sebago Lake area. The store has been in the Anderson family for more than a century. Andrews told the newspaper that he and Paiement found out about the store via the Zillow website. They also bought the adjacent farmhouse from the Anderson family. The couple will keep the store’s name.

In August 2017, The County reported that Gale Anderson was involved with the store since the early 1970s. It offers fresh cuts of meat, homemade baked goods and traditional Swedish offerings. The cousins said they were selling because they are getting older.

“Records mention that it was up and running between 1904 and 1906,” Suzy Anderson told the newspaper at the time. The store is a community hub and the only store in town.

Stockholm resident Wayne Violette told the newspaper then that it would be “bad news for the town” if the store closed.

Stockholm is in Aroostook County. The population was 253 at the 2010 Census.
