An insurance agency that began 20 years ago with an investment from what is now Maine’s largest credit union has named its first chief executive.
Stacey Chenevert will lead Atlantic Federal Credit Union Insurance LLC as president and CEO, according to a news release Tuesday.
Chenevert has worked for the past nine years as senior vice president of retail with South Portland-based Atlantic Federal Credit Union. She’s also served as an advisor to its insurance agency, which began in 2000 as Abenaki Insurance, with Atlantic as a partial owner.
Atlantic became the full owner in 2016 and changed the agency’s name to Atlantic Federal Credit Union Insurance. It employs a staff of five in Brunswick, and offers a range of insurance to the credit union members as well as nonmembers.
The credit union’s president and CEO, Scott Chretien, said, “Our team at Atlantic Insurance has delivered terrific growth over the past two years. To continue that progress, it has become very clear that more support for the agency would be a big boost. As a guide to the agency, Stacey's contribution has not gone unnoticed. Stacey is the right person to lead the agency.”
Chenevert said, “With 38 years of banking experience and 22 years of being a licensed property and casualty insurance agent, I’m excited to combine the two and help take Atlantic Federal Credit Union Insurance to another level.”
Atlantic FCU is Maine's largest credit union, according to the 2022 Mainebiz Book of Lists. The credit union, chartered in 1941, has assets of $963 million, with nearly 48,000 members and 200 employees.
