Jackson Lab awarded $1.6 million grant for genetics education

The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor has been awarded a four-year, $1.6 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to expand its course offerings in mammalian genetics, genomics and associated technologies.

The Mount Desert Islander reported that the funding will support courses at the biomedical research institution’s headquarters in Bar Harbor and the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, Conn.

“As the pace of discovery and technology development increases, so does the need for scientist education,” Thomas Litwin, Jackson Lab’s vice president for education, said in a statement. “With cutting-edge research, an internationally recognized faculty and the new JAX Genomic Medicine campus, we are well-positioned to creatively expand our advanced courses program to better serve the research community.”
