Networking will be the name of the game when the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Business Expo welcomes more than 100 businesses and what's expected to be hundreds of attendees Wednesday.
A new feature this year is "speed networking" sessions, aimed at connecting business owners and those looking to boost their careers with opportunities. The expo will also continue the hiring focus it had last year, including on-site job interviews. The speed networking replaces the speakers' program the expo had last year.
The expo will run from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Augusta Civic Center. The Kennebec Valley chamber has more than 600 business and organization members from the 23 towns and cities.
Besides more than 100 businesses and organizations from the capital area, there will also be also be food a cash bar and cash prizes. There is no admission charge.
The speed networking, which will be held in three sessions beginning at 2:30 p.m. is in partnership with Townsquare Media. Each session is an hour and will include 24 participants who will get 3 minutes with each participant to exchange information on their businesses.
The expo is also being held in conjunction with the Kennebec Valley Chamber’s Business After Hours, which is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. "to provide even more networking opportunities," the chamber said in a news release.
Aside from networking, employers and individuals seeking jobs will be able to connect easily — balloons will indicate exhibitors that are hiring. Interview booths will be available and job seekers are urged to bring a resume for on-site interviews, the chamber said.
"This event is a terrific opportunity to build your business and career," the news release said. "In a single afternoon you can network with other business professionals, prospects, and potential employees and employers all while comparing hundreds of the latest products, services, and companies committed to helping your business grow."
