The longtime president and CEO of Kennebunk Savings Bank, who will retire at the end of the month, plans to remain committed to his philanthropic and advocacy efforts.

Bradford Paige's successor, Lex Meagher, now president of the bank, will take over as CEO on Jan. 1. He told Mainebiz that with Paige's leadership the "bank is poised for continued growth and success in the coming years."

Kennebunk Savings operates 18 branches and offices in York County and coastal New Hampshire. With assets of $1.81 billion, Kennebunk Savings is No. 8 among the largest Maine-based banks, according to the 2024 Mainebiz Book of Lists.

Looking ahead, Paige told Mainebiz that he plans to remain on the Kennebunk Savings board of directors for at least a few years.

He also plans to continue his commitments as treasurer and board member of the SOS Recovery Community Organization and as a member of the futures board at Northeast Passage, an adaptive sports and recreation organization at the University of New Hampshire.

He and his wife will spend the colder months in Florida and the warmer months in Maine. He also looks forward to traveling and spending time with his children in Arizona and Florida.

Philanthropic work

Over the years, Paige, who joined the bank in 1998, has been active with local nonprofits, including the United Way of York County, Southern Maine Health Care, Wells Rotary Club, Wells-Ogunquit Community Connections Mentoring Program, York SHIPs mentoring program, Kennebunk-Kennebunkport Little League and the Child Abuse Prevention Council of York County. He also has served as chair of the Maine Bankers Association and on the American Bankers Association board of directors.

In 2016, Paige furthered the bank's efforts by creating the Spotlight Fund. Its signature causes include substance-use disorder prevention and recovery, for which Paige has been a fierce advocate. He helped the bank achieve a recovery-friendly workplace certification in New Hampshire and Maine, indicating that Kennebunk Savings promotes a safe and healthy environment that recognizes recovery as a strength.

"What stood out to me from the first time I heard a panel of individuals in recovery telling their stories was the tragedy that their efforts and progress in recovery were so often sidetracked or blocked by the stigma of being someone identifying themselves as having a substance-use issue," said Paige.

"That has driven me to do what I could as a business leader, an employer and an individual to improve access to support and resources for those who are on a recovery journey and to celebrate recovery as a success. I'm not a clinician, but I don't have to be," he added. "Every single business and every single individual has talents and/or access to resources that can make a difference to the recovery community — they just have to identify them and make a commitment to use them."
