Kennebunkport’s board of selectmen awarded a contract to perform a housing needs analysis to Camoine Associates of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
The Kennebunk Post reported that the analysis is being undertaken to address the inability of two-thirds of year-round households to afford the median home price.
The final report, due in December, is expected to provide action steps to provide affordable housing over the next decade, primarily through zoning and land use policies, but also by recommending methods and strategies employed in other communities.
In September 2016, town officials invited the Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast, from Dover, N.H., to conduct a public workshop on local housing needs.
“Being able to attract part of the workforce, and families, to our community has become an issue” because they couldn’t afford to live in Kennebunkport, Town Manager Laurie Smith told the paper at the time.
Camoine will compile data on existing housing stock, local land use rules, demographics, the area economy, and home demand, including competition from home-sharing websites like Airbnb. It also plans to hold public meetings.
