Knox County airport sees record March

Six months after a $3.2 million renovation, the Knox County Regional Airport has reported a record number of passengers for the month of March.

A total of 494 passengers flew out of the airport in Owls Head to Boston, a 25% increase from last March and more than any March since at least 1985, according to a press release. Advance bookings at the airport are up 22% compared with last year, and the first three months of 2011 were also the highest on record for that time period. Hyannis, Mass.-based Cape Air has served the airport since November 2008, and will provide service there and at the Augusta State Airport through October 2014.

The new, 9,758-square-foot airport terminal opened in October.
