Companies in the Lewiston-Auburn region are being invited to become destinations in a scavenger hunt designed to increase awareness of the area's businesses and attractions.

The event, created by the LA Metro Chamber of Commerce and young professionals business group Uplift LA, will be held Sept. 21. Teams of four will journey through the region on a route that will "test their knowledge, strength and perseverance," the organizations said in a news release.

The hunt will feature some of the "great destinations" in the region, including businesses, historical sites and more. Travelers with "passports" will solve clues that lead to the next destination, as well as solve physical and mental challenges, earning points along the way. The teams will have four hours to complete the challenge.

"Clues to the Destination Spots will incorporate history, community, and the arts, promoting our region as a center of culture for our residents and visitors," the release said.

"Whether travelers are visiting a newly established or a seasoned business or attraction, this scavenger hunt will take everyone on a fun adventure around the region."

The groups are hoping local businesses and organizations that want to be destination spots will sign on for a $350 fee. Benefits, the groups said, include increased traffic to the business or organization, additional social media exposure through the chamber and Uplift LA social media sites, and recognition as destination sponsor in the passport given to teams.

"These are people that might not have walked through your door otherwise," said Jenny Moulton, director of marketing and communications for the chamber, in a recent interview on radio station WEZR.

The major sponsor of the event is the Auburn-Lewiston Airport — the logo shows an airplane with a propeller — and the destinations have yet to be unveiled. The organizations said that registration will begin soon for the event.

Moulton said team registrations are not yet being taken, but businesses interested in taking part may contact the chamber.
