The National Labor Relations Board has indicated that FairPoint Communications was not bargaining in bad faith with striking workers, according to the company.
FairPoint said the labor board dismissed the complaint made by unions as part of an ongoing contract dispute, The Associated Press reported. The Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers said they will appeal the decision.
More than 1,700 workers have been on strike since October, when FairPoint said it had reached an impasse over contract negotiations.
The new contract calls for freezing existing pensions and turning them into 401(k) plans, requiring workers to make contributions for health care benefits, allowing FairPoint to hire contractors and eliminating health care benefits for retiring workers.
