Labor department warns of job scam

State officials are warning Maine workers about a scam that attempts to gain personal information by offering job hunt help.

The Maine Department of Labor said it has received reports of someone posing as a member of that agency who calls and asks for personal information to help the call recipient find a job.

Labor Commissioner Jeanne Paquette issued a warning Tuesday that her department does not make calls to solicit personal information from anyone not already involved with one of the department's programs. Paquette asked that anyone receiving such a call should not give out personal information and should contact local law enforcement and the Department of Labor at 623-7900.
