Lawmaker tables request for probe of DEP commissioner

State Sen. Chris Johnson, D-Somerville, has tabled his request for an investigation into allegations that Maine Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Patricia Aho is favoring former private-sector clients.

Sen. Emily Cain, D-Orono, chairwoman of the Legislature’s Government Oversight Committee, told the Bangor Daily News that Johnson asked for more time in order to provide more specific guidance to the committee about the questions he’d like the Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability to investigate. The Government Oversight Committee would have to approve the probe.

Johnson told the newspaper his July 1 letter requesting an investigation by the OPEGA “was a little too broad in order to do a proper investigation” and “not well enough formulated for OPEGA’s work.”

OPEGA is an investigative body administered by the Legislature’s Government Oversight Committee.
