Lawmakers starting bond discussions

Members of the Legislature’s appropriations committee will begin work today on state borrowing proposals carried over from the last legislative session.

The Associated Press reported the committee will review more than 30 bond proposals before the committee to craft a borrowing proposal to go out to the voters on an upcoming ballot.

Among the proposals is a $100 million transportation bond that Gov. Paul LePage said he wants to appear on a November ballot. Democrats say that timeline is too short to review all of the borrowing proposals, which they said should be done together.
